Day 6 of the One Word Challenge

| View in browser Welcome to Day 6 of the One Word Challenge! Your Day 6 Lesson is below... DAY 6 LESSON   10 Lessons I Have Learned Doing One Word for 26 Years   By Dan Britton, Co-Author of One Word   1) Discover Don’t Pick - Many times people say they picked their One Word instead of discovering a word. Over the years, I have learned my word finds me if I am willing to be patient and silent. There is a word meant for you.   2) Don't Stress - We drift to complexity instead of driving to simplicity. One Word is a simple discipline that is not difficult. Too many people feel like there is a perfect word and it is their job to find it, like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Stress less and have fun with it. There are probably many words for you each year, identifying your One Word is part of the journey. Remember: You will have many more years for more words. Every year’s word is another chapter to your story.   3) Honor the Process - Don’t rush into the year and bypass the three-step process of Looking In, Looking Up and Looking Out. There is power in this process. When I have honored the process and taken the time to do it properly, I have discovered a word that is different from the one I originally thought would define my year.    4) Take Time to Review - We get so excited about a new year, we are quick to place our past One Word on the shelf without taking the time to reflect. Even though a year may be over, your One Word journey is not something to check off as a to-do and put it behind you. Take time to stop and reflect on your One Word journey. It’s important to review how your One Word has developed you. Need a resource? Use our One Word Review.   5) Growing not Conquering - Everybody loves winning, but One Word isn’t about winning or conquering. Throughout my 26 years of One Word, I have grown more through the times I’m in the valley rather than standing on the mountain top. Learning from my One Word has happened through trials, challenges and pains rather than waving the victory flag. My One Words have stretched and matured me to bring transformation through many ups and downs.   6) No Redos - One year my dad wanted to redo his word because he felt like he hadn’t mastered it during the year. I told him he couldn’t do that. He said it was his word and he could do whatever he wanted. I said, “It’s my concept, you can’t redo!” Let each year stand on its own with all the blessings and burdens. Start the year fresh with a new word.   7) More than Me - It’s confession time. For many years, my One Word journey was 99% about self-improvement; however, the power of One Word is about the impact on others. When I live out my word in all areas of my life, the people around me benefit. Let your One Word be others focused and help those you serve.   8) Better Together - When family members, coworkers, teammates and friends do One Word together, the experience becomes more meaningful. One Word is one of the most significant team builders to create chemistry among a group or team. It becomes a shared experience and creates a healthy, positive culture. I make it a point to write down and memorize the words of the people closest to me so I can encourage and pray for them throughout the year.   9) Powerful Reminders - For more than two decades, I have never forgotten my word for the year. However, I have needed powerful reminders to keep it front and center. As the saying goes, out of sight, out of mind. Friends have blessed me with special gifts with my One Word on it like wooden carvings, bracelets and paintings. I place these powerful reminders in key places to keep focused on my word. I have several personal things I do like write my word each day at the top of my daily to-do list and keep a One Word document where I collect quotes, verses and stories.    10) Enjoy the Journey - Over the years, I have met some amazing people who maximized the One Word journey. One Word is about living your year to the fullest. Embrace your One Word and enjoy the incredible journey God has in store for you.    Take Action   Already know your One Word?
